Mechanical Engineer (Experienced/Senior)

About this role: 

We are looking for a suitably experienced Mechanical Engineer (Experienced & Senior) level to join our EPC team preferably based in Hobart or Perth but can be Melbourne or Sydney. This team is tasked with the design and delivery of projects from pre-works (including procurement and fabrication) through to commissioning and handover. The Mechanical Engineer is to provide engineering design works for the various bids and projects as assigned to them. This role involves ensuring the implementation of standard designs and procedures whilst reviewing and adequately addressing the client's scope and defining the technical baseline for project handover to the procurement and construction teams. The role also involves mentoring less experienced engineers where relevant and advancing COVA's standard designs and procedures. 

You'll also possess – and be able to demonstrate - these specific skills:

  • Provide technical support to the Design Manager.
  • Contribute to management plans and schedules.
  • Development of preliminary designs for tenders/studies utilizing COVA's standards.
  • Develop technical scopes and budgets for tender projects.
  • Respond to and review RFI’s as applicable.
  • Identify technical departures from Client Requirements.
  • Assist with technical risk assessments.
  • Define the project Design Baseline.
  • Develop project technical specifications for procurement and review pretender submissions.
  • Perform all necessary design calculations as applicable.
  • Implement COVA's standard procedures and processes.
  • Contribute to Safety in Design reviews and HAZOPs.
  • Contribute to Construction, Maintainability and Operability Assessments.
  • Identify hold and review points on Quality, Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Contribute to the Project Commissioning plan.
  • Actively contribute to formal Design Reviews at each design stage.
  • Actively contribute to Lessons Learnt sessions.
  • Review design drawings, technical data and models developed by COVA designers and external suppliers as applicable.
  • Peer review design documents from less experienced engineers.
  • Create and maintain engineering lists as applicable for the projects.
  • Contribute to the resolution of design related NCR’s as applicable.
  • Prepare datasheets as applicable.
  • Act as technical lead on projects of lower complexity.

Skills and experience

 It's likely your background will include:

  • 5 - 10 years’ experience as an Engineer
  • Advanced knowledge of design processes, means and methods
  • Experience designing Bulk Materials Handling systems (Preferred)
  • Experience on Design & Construction projects
  • Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Engineers Australia Professional Accreditation or approved equivalent
