Provide cardiology services at Royal Darwin Hospital and also across regional hospitals and remote communities in the Top End of Northern Territory.

The Northern Territory Cardiology Service goal is to provide patient centred care, delivering evidence based best practice for all of the diverse and remote NT population.

This includes a strong focus on research with the opportunity for further postgraduate studies, including collaborative research opportunities through the Menzies School of Health Research.

Key duties and responsibilities
  • Contribute to regular Cardiology 1 week ward service and after hour on call. Approximately 9 weeks per year.
  • Contribute to the Angiography / Intervention PCI service including on call PCI service.
  • Contribute to Pacemaker / ICD implantation and management.
  • Contribute to reporting echocardiograms, Exercise tests and Stress Echocardiograms
  • Regular public outpatient, telehealth and outreach Cardiology clinics. This includes providing clinical support to nominated remote communities.
  • Contribute to the supervision and teaching of Intern’s RMO’s and Registrar’s as well as contributing to Medical Student teaching.
  • Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces, including contributing to Audits, Regular M and M meetings.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
  • Eligible for registration with AHPRA (Medical Board of Australia) together with a Cardiology accredited Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent specialist overseas qualifications.
  • High level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interact positively as a team member in a cross-cultural work environment.
  • An interest in and a commitment to improving Indigenous health.
  • Evidence of commitment to; continuing education, teaching, research and quality assurance activities.
  • An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
