What you'll do

The Head of Assets & Procurement plays a crucial role leading the engineering managers and resources across KD Bus business units to deliver safe, reliable, cost efficient and effective engineering services to meet the needs of the business whilst leading and managing the provision of Asset Management procurement services, including procurement planning, development, sourcing, contract and risk management, to achieve value for money outcomes and to meet business needs on procurement.

This position proactively collaborates on asset management of the “Whole of Life” of assets and equipment operated by KD Bus with close references to ISO 55001 and the four key fundamentals – Value, Alignment, Leadership and Assurance whilst maintaining strategic and tactical responsibility for implementing engineering and procurement strategy and operational goals to exceed business requirements and stakeholders’ expectations.

Leading the engineering team across KD Bus who have cross-functional reporting to State Managers Group and Managing Directors for each business unit, you will act in a partnership and mentoring role to the engineering team in regards to assets and procurement in relation to decision making for asset management and procurement involving capex, opex to improve performance, reliability, safety, efficiency and fleet reputation enhancement while ensuring compliance across the group with all legislative, safety and in line with KD policies and procedures.

Specifically, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the provision of Asset Management procurement services, including procurement planning, development, sourcing, contract and risk management, to achieve value for money outcomes and to meet business needs on procurement.
  • Strategic and tactical responsibility for implementing engineering strategy and operational goals to exceed Business Requirements and Stakeholders expectations.
  • Achieving the appreciated balance of asset cost, risk and general performance optimising and driving engineering excellence to meet KD Bus objectives and to deliver value from the assets to all stakeholders. 
  • Reducing costs, by improving the group’s focus on conducting general maintenance at the correct time to achieve a balance between maintenance and renewal across the asset base of the group.
  • Lead the development and implementation of policies, procedures, systems and performance management frameworks for all sourcing related activity to ensure a high level of professional practice and deliver compliant and effective procurement outcomes.
  • Develop and implement procurement plans and strategies to meet business needs, enhance stakeholder engagement, and challenge and motivate providers to optimise service outcomes
  • Partner with stakeholders to develop innovative supply strategies, establish supply arrangements, lead high-level negotiations and manage contracts to deliver value for money outcomes.
  • Lead negotiations on high impact, complex supply arrangements and contract issues in the sourcing phase to deliver outcomes and meet national business needs.
  • Continuous improvement to operational workshops / maintenance management and support processes for KD Bus operations and recommending best practice principles from our parent companies and industry as a whole.
  • Assist the management team or board which determines business decisions, contributing to overall business strategy and the annual budget process.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the Engineering Team in line with Keolis Downers’ Business Objectives, Aim, Purpose and Values.

About you

  • At least 10 years’ experience at a Senior Management level of a transport facility, preferably Public Transport.
  • Extensive relevant experience in managing and delivering procurement services.
  • Proven ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements.
  • Demonstrated experience of leading an engineering function with a proven track record in strategic engineering leadership delivering effective engineering strategies, policies, processes and systems.
  • Recognised project management capabilities and management of contract supplier experience.
  • Experience of operating and influencing at a Business strategic level and Objectives.
  • Knowledge and technical understanding of automotive processes, components and design techniques.
  • Demonstrates authentic leadership and can support the development of high-performance teams.
  • Can form influential relationships with stakeholders, customers, employees, and suppliers. Collaboration with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Drive, passion, energy, critical thinking, ambition, growth and performance mindset. Takes initiative and is motivated by ‘getting things done’.
