Trades Assistant/Site Handyman: Maintenance Technician

ALS is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join our maintenance team at the ALS Metallurgy laboratory campus in Balcatta with occasional requirements at Wangara, both northern suburbs of Perth. Note that this is not a FIFO mine site position.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our tradespeople by assisting with routine equipment repairs, servicing, and maintenance tasks, together with upkeep of the wider laboratory infrastructure. Rostered hours are primarily day shift with potential for some overtime on weekends.
The day to day- Assist in the repair and maintenance of various equipment and machinery.
- Assist in maintaining business infrastructure, including minor repairs and installations.
- Perform general labor tasks including cleaning, organizing, and preparing work areas.
- Support tradespeople with hands-on tasks as required.
- Handle tools and equipment, ensuring they are maintained and stored properly.
- Perform routine maintenance checks and report any issues.
- Drive ALS vehicles for routine errands to collect parts and equipment from vendor sites around Perth.
- Follow all safety protocols and ensure a clean and safe working environment.
This is a physically demanding position that requires applicants to be physically fit and have access to reliable transportation, holding a valid WA driver’s license. Suitable candidates for this role should preferably have:
- A trade qualification is not required, but previous experience in a workshop or similar environment would be highly regarded.
- A good knowledge of tools and equipment used in maintenance and repairs.
- Strong physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor tasks.
- The ability to follow instructions, with good attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and at times independently.
- Liaise with outside contractors and other internal departments.
- Commitment to workplace safety by adherence to company policies.
