The ACEREZ consortium, which includes the ACCIONA COBRA Joint Venture (ACJV), has been appointed Preferred Proponent to design and construct the transmission line infrastructure for the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ), as part of Australia’s energy transition, outlined in the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap.

The new transmission infrastructure, which will combine high-capacity transmission lines, energy hubs and related infrastructure, will enable generators such as solar and wind farms and energy storage providers in the CWO REZ to connect to the electricity grid, providing a reliable supply of clean, affordable electricity for households and businesses across NSW while helping to meet the state’s newly legislated Net Zero targets.

Our Central-West Orana project is currently seeking a dedicated Design Engineer to share their expertise within our growing Engineering - Roads team. In this position, you will contribute to engineering activities by completing technical design assignments and providing essential technical assistance for project delivery. You will manage all design aspects, coordinate resources, and oversee project execution from handover to completion, ensuring alignment with client and project goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake documentation and design tasks with expertise in pavements, roads, and access tracks, ensuring high technical standards and meeting client requirements.
  • Liaise effectively with project stakeholders, including clients, consultants, and authorities, to ensure project alignment and successful outcomes.
  • Develop innovative solutions and expedite project accomplishments by taking proactive actions.
  • Contribute to engineering assignments, including site inspections, research, design, procurement, and survey collation, supporting engineering strategies and client needs.
  • Prepare technical and structural drawings using CAD software, identify design issues, and assist senior staff as directed.
  • Provide technical assistance, perform administrative tasks, and analyse data to support environmental engineering operations and project decision-making.
  • Ensure safe engineering practices by monitoring systems, procedures, and equipment, adhering to project timelines, costs, and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate design engineering activities, contribute to design schedules and document control, and support the preparation of client presentations, aligning with company procedures and quality objectives.

Minimum Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a construction/civil engineering environment with significant exposure to design, costing, estimating and planning.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering or a related architectural/technical design discipline, with intermediate role knowledge.
  • Demonstrated experience in pavements, surface treatments, roads, and access track design. Local experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting, estimating, scheduling, contracts administration, procurement, financial controls, and reporting.
  • Understanding of construction industry standards, including HS&E, environmental engineering, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in technical design tools and software packages, such as CAD, Autodesk Architectural Desktop, and advanced word-processing.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for decision-making and stakeholder engagement.

This role will be based in our project office in Sydney CBD until the completion of the design phase by December 2025, with potential for transition to rostered site work thereafter.
