Financial Accountant

Churches of Christ SA & NT is seeking a Financial Accountant to play a pivotal role in serving our communities. The successful candidate will develop and maintain relationships with key partners and churches to assist them with all finance needs. Additionally, the Financial Accountant will work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure well-established Governance frameworks, and financial systems.

About the role:

Key areas of responsibility:

Financial Management

  • Maintenance of Xero Ledger
  • EOM journals & Generation of finance reports
  • Balance of Sheet Reconciliation
  • Regulatory Management & Advice (GST & FBT)
  • Managing Accounts Payable & Receivable, including Cash Management
  • Payroll Data Management
  • Involvement in insurance and loan support for churches

Quality and Compliance

  • Take initiative to identify continuous improvement opportunities in the work area to drive efficiencies and improvement to systems and processes in collaboration with the Finance Team.
  • Establish and maintains strong peer-to-peer relationships
  • Maintain knowledge with legislative requirements to ensure policies and practices are compliant.
  • Identify areas of financial risk and make recommendations to action to mitigate and manage risks as appropriate.
  • Ensure adherence to Churches of Christ policies and procedures whilst ensuring fairness and consistency.

Risk and Compliance

  • Ensures all practices are delivered in line with policies, regulatory and reporting obligations
  • Ensures the integrity data of all transactional processes
  • Escalates financial or operational risks within the business when noted

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance
  • At least 2 years’ experience in financial accounting
  • Commercial, Business experience
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a deadline orientated environment
  • Experience in customer service and support
  • Excellent writing and general communication skills
  • Articulate, pleasant, welcoming and helpful personality and manner
  • Ability to prioritise and professionally managing competing priorities and challenging situations
