Due to high demand for our services, Aspec Engineering (ASPEC) is looking for a Graduate Structural Engineer to join our Brisbane Structural Team in 2024. ASPEC is a multi-disciplinary engineering firm established in 2003 that provides specialist services to the port, resources, heavy industry and infrastructure sectors. ASPEC provides expertise in the design and assessment of mechanical structures (such as stackers, reclaimers and shiploaders for materials handling, and even surf parks). From our offices in Brisbane, Perth, Newcastle and Wollongong, ASPEC has developed close ties with major clients, and provides a comprehensive service in our core business areas of Engineering Projects, Materials Handling and Structural Integrity.

ASPEC is seeking a motivated Graduate Structural Engineer based in Brisbane, wishing to accelerate their structural engineering career.

In the role you will have opportunities to:

  • Work in a multidisciplinary team environment alongside experienced Structural and Mechanical Engineers and Designers
  • Be mentored by ASPEC’s experienced Structural and Mechanical Engineers
  • Gain a broad range of experience that will enable you to become a chartered engineer and a registered professional engineer in Queensland
  • Undertake challenging structural design, analysis and investigation projects
  • Gain hands-on experience in the field through visits to our client’s sites across Queensland and interstate
  • Develop skills in a broad range of engineering software packages and develop a detailed understanding of Australian Standards, technical literature and industry guidelines to support engineering design and analysis.
About You

  • Seeking full time work from early 2024
  • Highly motivated to learn and contribute
  • Interested in structural engineering
  • Report writing and communication skills
  • Formal engineering qualifications (degree in Civil or Structural Engineering)
    • Applicants with a Major in Structural Engineering and/or prior learning in structural analysis, steel/concrete design and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) will be highly regarded in the application process.
    • Applicants graduating in mid-2024 will also be considered for a role with an opportunity to start as a Student Engineer.

Job Description

ASPEC Engineering Pty Ltd (ASPEC) is a multi-disciplinary engineering firm that provides services to ports, resource companies, heavy industries and infrastructure. From offices in Brisbane, Perth, Newcastle and Wollongong, ASPEC has developed close ties with clients, and provides a comprehensive service in core business areas, of: Engineering Projects, Materials Handling and Structural Integrity.

Due to high demand for our services, ASPEC requires a Senior Structural Engineer with 10 years’ experience based in Brisbane.

The Position will be as project leader for delivery of structural projects to ASPEC’s clients or as lead structural engineer on larger multidisciplinary projects. The position will report technically to the supervising structural engineer in ASPEC’s Brisbane office. The role will involve working in a multidisciplinary team environment, alignment with the company’s values and using and contributing to the company’s quality and safety systems. Travel to site for short periods will be required.

The following skills, experience and attributes are requirements for the role:

  • Use of Structural Analysis and Design Software including FEA software
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards
  • Design and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead Project Teams technically and commercially
  • Interpersonal skills for interacting with clients and team members
  • Business development skills
  • Report writing and communication skills
  • Site experience
  • Experience in heavy structural engineering for steel and concrete and foundation works
  • Experience in materials handling systems

Qualifications should include a degree in Civil Engineering, CPEng and RPEQ.
