Working within a continuous improvement environment, engineers are responsible for the maintenance, repair and performance improvement of fully automated process and packaging equipment. They provide effective, efficient and timely response to plant breakdowns with respect to site maintenance issues, ensuring maintenance and calibrations are completed on time and in full as per the site requirements, and ensure a proactive response to maintenance activities and breakdowns on site, ensuring continuity of production and services and compliance with the production plan by minimising engineering downtime.
Your new role
  • Support and coach the effective development of Engineers, Operators and Team Leaders in their upskilling on their lines
  • To step change the performance and efficiency of the existing plant through continuous improvement techniques
  • Establish clear objectives and priorities with the Engineering Coordinator to enable manufacturing to meet operational targets
  • Responsible for monitoring and improving the planned maintenance system and ensuring work is planned and progressed
  • Updating of plant parameters/set points etc. as per site procedures, as and when required / requested
  • Ensure that plant and equipment perform to manufacture products efficiently to high quality standards
  • Undertake the training of others as and when required
  • Take ownership of your own learning and development needs, continued upskilling and multi-skilling across the Engineering department
  • Work closely with support functions to ensure resources required are identified and communicated with all outstanding issues resolved
  • Communicate as required with planning, production and all sites to ensure projects are implemented on time and in full
  • Communicate daily with the Engineering Coordinator / Shift Deputy to ensure planned maintenance, engineering and production priorities are considered
  • Communicate as required with the Engineering Admin to ensure that spares are available for planned and breakdown maintenance
What you'll need to succeed
  • Min. 4 years practical experience (practical time in apprenticeship role counts towards this), preferably in a FMCG environment
  • Experience in the food industry would be advantageous.
  • Min. NVQ3 in Engineering
  • HNC/HND in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering would be beneficial.
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Ability to deliver results on time and cost in a pressurised and trade union environment
  • Strong negotiation skills to gain support to drive success across the business through people
  • The task focused on the ability to deliver on time.
