Duties
  1. Lead the Financial Accounting and Operation Unit in preparing the Department’s financial statements and Treasury mandatory reporting in accordance with Australian accounting standards and Treasurer’s Instructions.
  2. Manage the Department’s fixed asset register (including reconciliations with other Departmental asset systems) and coordination of asset valuations.
  3. Provide specialist authoritative advice and support to senior management and staff on contemporary financial management practices and processes including the implementation of Treasurer’s Instructions.
  4. Management of the Department’s taxation compliance framework and reporting.
  5. Manage and review financial policies, internal controls, and general ledger structure to ensure financial systems and processes support effective financial management and reporting requirements.
  6. Manage the external audit function, progress external audit recommendations, and support specific internal audit projects.
  7. Contribute to financial management reform and business improvement initiatives through the management or coordination of allocated projects, undertaking high-level research and analysis, preparing reports, and making appropriate recommendations.
  8. Provide supervisory direction to the staff of the Financial Accounting and Operation Unit.
  9. Maintain effective relationships with Divisions and business units on financial management matters, taking into account varying business needs within the Agency. This includes the development and provision of user training and education.
  10. Perform any other assigned duties at the classification level that are within the employee’s competence and training. The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties not specifically mentioned in this document that are within the capacity, qualifications, and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

Desirable Requirements
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
  • Eligible for membership of CPA Australia, Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, or other professional body.
