We are looking for a Defence Automation Technician/ Tester to assist in a major above the line project. Ideally we are seeking a permanent employee however can also consider this position as a contract opportunity.

Location: ACT + NSW

Security Clearance: Minimum Negative Vetting 2 

Start Date: ASAP

Length of role: June 30 2025

Role Overview:

Join a cutting-edge Defence project aimed at modernizing mission systems. This program provides a cyber-hardened, integrated, and sustainable networked mission system, supporting both deployed operations and day-to-day administrative activities through advanced ICT systems and infrastructure (Minerva).

As an Automation Technician, you will be crucial in developing, implementing, and maintaining automation routines across complex ICT infrastructure. Your responsibilities include ensuring the cyber-worthiness of networks by maintaining confidentiality, availability, authentication, assurance, and integrity of information, as well as ensuring compliance with records management standards.

This role demands agility, adaptability, and responsiveness to evolving operational needs, technological innovations, and emerging threats. You will be part of a dynamic support organization using SAFe Agile and DevSecOps processes, ensuring continuous improvement and maintaining a technical edge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, build, implement, and maintain automation routines across complex ICT infrastructure software and applications.
  • Analyse, log, track, and resolve complex issues related to automated test scripts.
  • Identify and assess technical risks, collaborating with project stakeholders to provide mitigation options.
  • Create and conduct peer reviews of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documentation, build guides, and related artefacts.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in Defence as an Automation Technician/ Tester.
  • Expertise in Automation and Orchestration technologies, including Ansible and GITlab.
  • Proficient in scripting languages such as PowerShell, SQL, IaC, yaml, pwsh, and python.
  • Ability to translate customer requirements, standards, and frameworks into practical applications.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills with experience in stakeholder engagement.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience with Minerva systems.
  • Ability to rapidly build, automate, and deliver proof of concept systems for analysis, testing, accreditation, and development.
  • Familiarity with governance frameworks related to infrastructure service and security delivery, including the Australia Information Security Manual (ISM).
  • Experience with ADF deployed environments/platforms and their unique networking, support, and security constraints.
