About the Role

We are seeking to recruit a medical practitioner to the role of Principal Investigator (PI) at Nucleus Network in Brisbane. This is a significant medical role and is focused on lead investigator responsibilities for early-phase clinical trials, including first-in-human studies. 

This position reports to our Medical Director and will include involvement in the design, conduct and reporting of Phase 1 studies. PIs work as part of a larger team of medical officers, project managers, study coordinators, nurses and pharmacists at Nucleus Network that delivers safe clinical trials and high-quality trial data. 

No prior Phase 1 trials experience is required, and the appointee will be extensively trained and mentored in the PI role.

Key responsibilities

  • Review clinical trial protocols and investigator brochures in depth
  • Ensure the safe and effective implementation and performance of early-phase trials at our Brisbane unit, in association with the Brisbane Medical Director and Nucleus Network Chief Medical Officer
  • Monitor safety during studies including the review and management of adverse events
  • Provide medical services to participants of clinical trials
  • Offer support to biotech and pharma companies on protocol design and study conduct
  • Attend Safety Monitoring Committee meetings and contribute to dose-escalation decisions
  • Provide medical advice to all departments of Nucleus Network
  • Apply ICH Good Clinical Practice and applicable regulatory guidance to the practice of clinical trials
  • Supervise and mentor junior medical officers at Nucleus Network 
  • Provide expertise and leadership if a medical emergency was to occur

Requirements

  • Full Australian work rights
  • Full AHPRA registration as a medical practitioner
  • At least 4 years of clinical experience post-graduation from medical school
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team
  • An interest in the science and medicine of new drug development
  • FRACP or other fellowship of a relevant specialist college and/or a PhD or other higher degree may be an advantage, but is not essential for this role

  • Full time; however, a part-time appointment will also be considered based on candidate preference and availability
