Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ) is a marine emergency service dedicated to protecting the safety of the Queensland boating community. Marine Rescue Queensland, established in 2024 is Queensland's first single integrated state-wide service, serving the state's coastline and waterways. In this role you will be part of the newly established Marine Rescue Queensland Unit and support work associated with the blue water rescue capability, dedicated to protecting Queenslanders in our oceans and waterways.
The core capability requirements for this role are:
• Provide strategic direction on the development of innovative cross-sectoral partnership strategies to build the capacity and preparedness of the marine rescue and disaster management service.
• Lead and manage the delivery and implementation of cross-sectoral initiatives, research and service models that promote professional partnerships and improve outcomes for the delivery of essential emergency, safety, preparedness, mitigation, and response services across Queensland.
• Lead the development of capacity-building and governance strategies that will:
- improve relationships between government and non-government agencies, and
- strengthen planning, risk, and performance management in the delivery of highquality community safety services.
• Provide high level strategic advice and direction to promote community education and awareness about best practice responses to hazards and risks.
• Develop and maintain strong collaborative partnerships across government and non-government service sectors to foster commitment and cooperation in community safety and emergency management and influence decision making.
• Represent and negotiate on behalf of MRQ at high level inter and intrajurisdictional meetings and manage liaison and coordination with key government and non- government agencies in building awareness and strengthening preparedness and responses to emergency management.
• Establish professional and ethical working relationships and actively engage in risk management activities which promote corporate governance and strengthen the prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery approach.
• Manage human, financial, and physical resources ensuring a culture of community service and performance management.
• Promote a work environment which is accountable, fair, and safe while promoting innovation, learning and effective linkages across policy, research, evaluation, and reporting systems.
Role Requirements:
• Mandatory: Possession of Open ‘C' Class Queensland Drivers Licence
• Qualification: Formal Marine Qualifications are highly desirable …
• Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience: Demonstrated experience in the planning, coordination, and management of maritime services, specifically relating to community and maritime safety.
• Other: Ability to travel intra-state in alignment with service requirements. You will be required to provide 24/7 support from time to time.
