Housing Australiais an independent corporate Commonwealth entity, dedicated to improving housing outcomes for more Australians, and will be responsible for facilitating 40,000 new social and affordable homes under the Housing Australia Future Fund and the National Housing Accord.

Housing Australia arranges funding for community housing providers and new housing infrastructure projects through the Affordable Housing Bond Aggregator (AHBA) and National Housing Infrastructure Facility (NHIF). We also support home ownership by administering a number of Home Guarantee Schemes, and produce strategic housing data and insights. Housing Australia was previously known as the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation (NHFIC).

Our purpose is to improve housing outcomes by helping more Australians to access affordable, safe and secure housing.

About the role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will support various commercial, financial, transactional processes and governance. Your responsibilities will include overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting and reporting requirements, managing and overseeing the preparation and distribution of financial reports.

Key responsibilities

  • Leading the month end general ledger close process, including reconciling accounts, reviewing financial statements, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting
  • Maintain the GL and ensure proper coding of transactions
  • Review journal entries, trial balances, and prepare monthly financial statements
  • Supervise the preparation of quarterly and annual accounts reconciliations
  • Apply advanced accounting skills to research, analyse, interpret complex financial data, and provide expert advice to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Lead the creation of accounting policies and accounting papers, maintaining consistency in financial reporting
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external auditors to address technical accounting matters
  • Oversee the production of financial statements, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and accounting standards
  • Create accurate and timely financial reports
  • Analyse financial data, reconcile accounts, and provide recommendations to improve the organisation’s financial health
  • Government reporting, preparing and submitting reports
  • Manage and optimise financial systems to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance data accuracy. Oversee system upgrades, implementations, and user training.
  • Assist in the budget and forecast process

Skills and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
  • Relevant certifications (such as Certified Public Accountant or Chartered Accountant)
  • Proven working experience as an Accounting Manager, Accounting Supervisor, or Finance Manager gained in financial service organisations
  • Advanced skills in MS Office, accounting software, and databases. Relevant experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is advantageous
  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of data
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
