The Opportunity

The SeniorUnderground Planning Engineer will provide technical direction to MinRes Lithium mine site operations and corporate stakeholders, to delivery of MinRes objectives through optimised, accurate and repeatable underground mine plans and designs.

This role involves having strong stakeholder engagement with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, providing advice and implementing strategies to ensure alignment of mine plans with business objectives.

For this position you will report directly to the Manager Underground Planning and be part of our long-term planning team, you will be based at our HQ office on Osborne Park, and on occasions oversee projects up onsite as the business requires.

Your primary responsibilities may include.

  • Lead, create, and deliver underground mine planning optimisation, mining method selection, mine design, scheduling, cost/financial modelling, and reporting for Concept, PFS, FS and implementation studies.
  • Develop and update Underground Life of Mine (LOM), budget, and quarterly reforecast mine plans.
  • Collaborate with geology, geotechnical, environment, approvals, engineering, and site implementation teams to ensure alignment of mine plans with business objectives.
  • Estimation, analysis, selection, and justification of UG capital infrastructure to support and enable mine plans.
  • Collaborate and engage across the business to ensure UG capital infrastructure planning is integrated into engineering, budgets, forecasting, and business planning.
  • Support the mining approvals process by identifying and incorporating mining approval requirements into mine plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Identify risks and opportunities in mine plans and communicate and incorporate appropriate risk mitigation and opportunity enabling strategies.
  • Visit project and operational sites monthly to engage with site personnel, review onsite mining progress, and deliver mine plans and schedules.
  • Develop and implement mine planning systems, procedures, standards, and templates to support the development and communication of mine plans from long-term to short-term.
  • Communicate mine plans to stakeholders.
  • Support site personnel to implement mine plans and budgets.

What is required?

  • Tertiary Degree in Mining Engineering.
  • Preference to have 7+ years’ experience in underground planning/operations.
  • Highly proficient in the Deswik suite of mine planning products across underground optimisation, design, and scheduling.
  • Mine planning optimisation and mining method selection at the PFS or Life Of Mine level.
  • Exposure to infrastructure planning and economic assessments.
  • Previous experience in large scale, complex underground mining environments.
  • Experience with pastfill and ventilation design preferable.
  • Self-managed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience in meeting deadlines and agility to achieve project directives.
