About the Opportunity:

Our Queensland Metals business operates multiple mining operations and processing plants, plus port and logistics operations. This is a wonderful opportunity to expand your horizons working across multiple sites as a conduit between strategy and execution. Right now, we have an opportunity for you as a Geotechnical Engineer in our underground operations. As one of the world’s largest Mining Operations and Australia’s deepest, this is a challenging position technically. However, with a team of over twenty peers and a strong technical leadership team, you will be well supported and developed.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure compliance is maintained to the Ground Control Management plan and QLD mining quarrying and Safety ACT.
  2. Conduct and report Empirical and Numerical modelling of new mining blocks.
  3. Record and interrogate on monitoring instrumentation, report and develop action plans in conjunction with operations and planning engineers.
  4. Interpretation of mine monitoring systems, e.g., Seismic monitoring, Underground inspection and Geotechnical mapping.
  5. Design and reconciliation of large stopping excavations.
  6. QAQC on installed ground support.
  7. Monitoring of excavations through damage mapping.
  8. Design and reconciliation of vertical and horizontal mine development.
Qualifications and Experience:

As the successful applicant you will have:

  • A tertiary degree or an equivalent qualification in Engineering or a Geoscience, with majors in Mining and or Geotechnical engineering.
  • Approximately 2 years’ experience (or more) in underground hard rock mining.
  • Experience with numerical modelling software packages (ideally Map3D) and Mine design software (Ideally Deswik Suite).
  • Teamwork, strong communication skills, effective problem-solving skills, analytical skills.
  • High level of accuracy in their work and ability to manage time effectively.
  • Competent in using Deswik, Geotechnical software packages, and exposure to Geo statistics.
  • Australian Manual Drivers' Licence or international equivalent.
