The opportunity

You will play a key role in providing data driven and evidence based strategic economic advice on a range of matters, including investment and pricing.

You will form part of a team that drives the provision of valued services to GWW’s customers by ensuring prices are maintained to generate sufficient revenue for GWW to run its operations, invest in new assets to deliver the services that customers expect while providing a fair return to the shareholder.

Responsibilities

• Regulatory submissions - Lead discrete components in the development of GWW’s price submissions and regulatory requirements; Participation in wholesale supplier’s price submissions to the Essential Services Commission.
• Reporting and analysis - Lead and conduct a range of reporting and advisory functions under the economic regulatory framework, including cost benefit analysis, demand analysis, expenditure analysis, and performance reporting.
• Policy advice - Provide actionable insights to senior management on any policy changes or amendments, across areas including water resources, economic policy, climate, Integrated Water Management.
• Economic advice - Provide economic advice to internal and external stakeholders, including provision of key assumptions for business cases, conducting reviews of business cases and underpinning quantitative and qualitative inputs.
• Stakeholder engagement and advocacy - Advocate for GWW’s customers in State and Australian Government reviews of economic regulation, productivity and competition policy.

Skills & Experience

• Extensive experience working in economic regulation at a regulated entity (water or other regulated industry), consulting firm, economic regulator or government department. 
• Experience in developing and applying quantitative techniques (including cost benefit analysis) for research, forecasting and economic analysis, and in the use of statistical modelling tools.
• Experience in developing and/or reviewing business cases.
• Tertiary qualification in Economics.
• Knowledge of the Australian water industry and regulatory landscape is highly desirable.
