Mills Recruitment - Senior Civil Engineer with Hydrology Expertise

Mills Recruitment is currently looking for a Senior Civil Engineer with expertise in Hydrology to join their team. This position is initially offered as a 12-month contract, with the potential for extension. The successful candidate will primarily work within the Sustaining Capital group and may also have the opportunity to contribute to significant projects within the rail sector and across the broader organisation.

A leading engineering and project delivery company, specialising in providing professional infrastructure and built environment solutions. With a strong presence in the mining sector, they operate across multiple markets and industries, including Renewables and Technology, Rehabilitation, Rail and Resource Infrastructure.

The Role

Working closely with Project Managers, providing technical expertise and advice across all stages of project design, including Order of Magnitude, Pre-Feasibility Studies, Feasibility Studies, Detailed Design, and Execution phases.

  1. Hydrological Analysis: Conduct detailed hydrological assessments and modelling to support project planning and development.
  2. Engineering Solutions: Identify and define engineering solutions tailored to client needs and project specifications.
  3. Technical Expertise: Offer technical guidance and advice throughout all project stages to ensure optimal design and implementation.
  4. Sustaining Capital Projects: Provide engineering expertise for sustaining capital projects, ensuring compliance with design standards and regulatory requirements.
  5. Project Support: Assist in the planning, design, and implementation of major projects, particularly those related to rail infrastructure.
  6. Technical Leadership: Mentor and support junior engineers and project teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  7. Compliance and Standards: Ensure all projects comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and environmental guidelines.

Additionally, you will be involved in:

  1. Stormwater Investigations and Flood Studies: Undertake stormwater investigations and flood studies, devising mitigation strategies as needed.
  2. Standards Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry and client standards.
  3. Scope Management: Identify and report on any potential deviations from the agreed scope of work.
  4. Project Scheduling and Monitoring: Prepare schedules for designs, monitor progress, and supervise the preparation of preliminary and detailed designs, specifications, and documentation for all project work.
  5. Training and Development: Contribute to the training and development of junior engineers and provide technical guidance and advice to the project team.
  6. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with various stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies, to ensure project objectives are met.
Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering. Minimum of 9 years of professional experience as a civil engineer. Demonstrated experience working on engineering design and study projects within the mining industry with a focus on delivering technical discipline engineering. Experience in hydrology and water engineering, including using modelling packages such as RORB, TUFLOW, or HEC-RAS. Experience working within an engineering consultancy setting. Understanding and experience in flood modelling as a precursor to drainage design. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and ensure deliverables are met on time.
