A Financial Modelling Lead opportunity has become available, which will see you developing, maintaining and operating key financial models used for financial planning, budgeting, financing and investment decision making. This specialist role will also provide financial modelling SME support and advice for high value projects or business development activities.

With a hybrid split (Office/WFH), this role is based in Southbank and is part of the Corporate Finance and Analytics team.

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Developing, updating and operating AusNet’s Financial model suite (Liquidity, Corporate and Valuation models, all MS Excel based financial models), which is used as the primary tool for financial planning, financing and cashflow management
  • Ensuring calculations and efficient, accurate and can be scaled with minimal effort
  • Building effective checks and controls within the model to identify errors quickly
  • Building functionality for other team members to obtain information and run analysis with minimal assistance (e.g. scenario analysis)
  • Leading or supporting the development of other financial models and tools that interface with the Financial models
  • Liaise with and build trusting relationships across the business with various internal stakeholders that ensures Financial models reflect business practice and requirements
  • Coach, mentor and train team members in the creation, use and modification of complex financial models to achieve Corporate Finance goals and build capability within the team
  • Initiative ideas and support continuous improvement activities in developing a standardised approach to financial modelling and investment analysis
  • Provide financial modelling SME support and/or advice for high value projects or business development activities

You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Genuine passion for financial modelling with a desire to develop specialist knowledge and expertise in this area
  • You may have had experience in a Big Four consultancy in a similar like role &/or you are looking for your next opportunity in a complex, corporate environment
  • Exceptional MS Excel and financial modelling skills (consistently within top 5% of Finance peer group), with a track record of developing and maintaining highly complex financial models
  • Advanced charting and presentation skills to support deliverable development
  • Strong understanding of interrelationship between financial statements – P&L, Cash Flow and Balance Sheet
  • Strong understanding of debt markets and calculation of credit metrics
  • Highly analytical and logical mindset with the ability to code, interpret and troubleshoot complex formulas
