At the University Clinic of Ophthalmology and Optometry in Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz, we have a job opening for a student assitant in research for the SS2023.

The reprogramming of somatic cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and the breakthrough of 3D retinal organoids (ROs) technology represent a great humanized model that can mimic the disease’s pathophysiology. We aim to use these models to investigate the biocompatibility and efficiency of organic semiconductors as potential photovoltaic materials for organic retinal prosthesis.

The work of the student assistant will focus on supporting the generation and charcaterization of human retinal organoids (from healthy and disease patients) as well as testing the biocompatibility of organic materials coated on flexible substrate. The techniques include stem cell culture and differentiation, culture 3D retinal orgnanoids, MTT assay, flow cytometry, qRTPCR, immunofluorescence and microscopy.

The duration of the position will be for 6 months, 20 hours/week.
