**Summary of Position**

The IES Abroad Vienna Center Director is responsible for strategy, management, and operations at the IES Abroad Vienna Center. The Center Director supervises the Center's academic programs and serves as the main point of contact with the Center's partner institutions in the Vienna metropolitan area. They cultivate a broad range of contacts in Vienna and Austria to benefit the Center and IES Abroad. The Center Director is the main point of contact for the Center with IES Abroad headquarters in Chicago and works in close partnership with the Central Europe Center Cluster Dean, to whom the Center Director reports. The Center Director hires and supervises all staff and faculty members for the Vienna Center and is responsible for the health and safety of the Center's students. The Center Director also represents IES Abroad and the IES Abroad Vienna Center at IES Abroad meetings, on visits to colleges and universities in the United States, and in discussions of professional organizations and conferences. The IES Abroad Vienna Center Director collaborates closely with IES Abroad's global Center Directors as well as staff and faculty throughout the Central Europe Region. They periodically serve on organization-wide committees and task forces.

The IES Abroad Center Director combines strong academic credentials with demonstrated experience in administration and management. The Center Director should be familiar with the nature, organization, and customs of higher education in both the United States and Austria, have experience working in education in both countries and demonstrate skill at collaborating with Austrian and U.S. institutions. The Center Director should have a solid commitment to academic rigor, educating post-secondary students in an international environment, and promoting intercultural competence. Native or near-native fluency in German and English, written and spoken, is required, and experience with other European languages is beneficial.

**Duties**

Administration and Program Management
- Collaborate with the Center Cluster Dean and AVP, Academic Programs to set measurable goals for the Center each year and evaluate progress toward achieving these
- Develop and manage the Center's annual budget and periodic forecasts; approve all Center expenditures; review expenditures monthly and meet all financial deadlines.
- Strategically plan and manage the Vienna Center staff, with appropriate review and input from the Center Cluster Dean and Academic Affairs leadership.
- Coordinate center operations, special programs, and student affairs with the Assistant Center Director and Operations Manager by receiving regular updates and taking part in decision-making as necessary.
- Ensure collaboration of the Vienna Center with the IES Abroad Customized Programs Department in Chicago, including planning potential programs and administering programs once on-site.

- In consultation with the Center Cluster Dean, AVP, and Chicago Academics staff, create/develop new programs, courses, intercultural opportunities, etc., and revise existing ones as needed.
- In conjunction with the Center's Internship Coordinator, ensure collaboration of the Vienna Center with the IES Abroad Internships Programs in Chicago, including the planning and administration of the Center's full-time summer internship program.
- Ensure that all Center staff, faculty, and assistants are trained on IES Abroad protocols and policies and adhere to all guidelines.

Academic Management
- Provide an ongoing implementation of IES Abroad quality standards based on the IES Abroad _MAP_© series and IES Abroad policies and protocols.
