ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The Geneva Consensus Foundation is a public utility foundation created in 2013 in compliance with Articles 80 et seq of the Swiss Civil Code. Our goal is to contribute to World Polity and through the international consensus-building process put in place a global partnership for sustainable development, ensure policy coherence for development, and for the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

On 26 January 2016, the United Nations Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations, by the decision ECOSOC/6728-NGO/819, recommended granting Special Consultative Status to the Geneva Consensus Foundation. At its 16th plenary meeting, on 5 April 2016, the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations adopted decision 2016/215 to grant consultative status to the GCF. Since 2016, GCF is also a member of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

The GCF emphasizes sustainable development as the most significant collective challenge facing humanity. Since the Rio Summit, the international community has aspired to integrate social, economic, and environmental dimensions within a single framework. However, prevailing governance systems often separate these pillars at policy, planning, and management levels, leading to widening inequality, pervasive social tension, and alarming climate change.

We believe the solutions for sustainable development in the interconnected global world entail a significant paradigm shift towards systems analysis and matrix thinking to address the inter-temporal effectiveness-efficiency-equity challenges for future generations. The Rio+20 conference laid solid foundations for this paradigm shift, but the lack of integrated systems thinking in most International/UN organizations prevents the identification of solutions to contemporary global challenges.

GENERIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of senior research staff, the Junior Research Specialist will support the Foundation’s mission to deliver high-quality research and analysis. The intern will engage in a range of activities including data collection, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and report preparation.

The Junior Research Specialist Intern shall be engaged as follows:
Research Support:

- Assist in data collection and management, including sourcing, cleaning, and preparing datasets for analysis.
- Conduct literature reviews and background research to support ongoing projects.
- Participate in the design and implementation of surveys and other data collection tools.
- Analyze quantitative data using statistical software (e.g., SPSS, STATA, R).

Policy Evaluation and Reporting:

- Contribute to the preparation of policy briefs, research reports, and presentations.
- Draft sections of research papers and policy documents under the guidance of senior researchers.
- Assist in the development of evaluation frameworks for assessing policy impacts.
- Support the dissemination of research findings through presentations, webinars, and publications.

Project Coordination:

- Coordinate with team members and external partners to ensure timely completion of project tasks.
- Organize and participate in meetings, workshops, and conferences related to ongoing research projects.
- Manage project documentation and ensure proper archiving of research materials.

MINIMUM ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- **Age**: Minimum 20 years on the first day of the internship.
- **Education**: Enrolled in or recently completed a Master’s degree in International Relations, Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field.
- **Languages**: Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of another language, particularly the official UN languages, is an asset.
- **Other Skills**: Experience with statistical software and data analysis tools is highly desirable.
