Organizational Setting

The Director General's Office (DGO) provides leadership and coordination for all IAEA activities at the executive level for meeting Member States' needs, and achieving a one-house approach and a results-based management.The Office for Public Information and Communication provides objective, accurate and timely information about the IAEA and nuclear developments that fosters public understanding of the IAEA's global roles. It also provides advice to the Director General on relations with the media and organizes press briefings. The Office coordinates the communication activities for the rest of the house and assists in the media aspects of major IAEA events and conferences.The Web, Digital Media and Public Information Materials Section has corporate responsibility for the editorial management, creation and development of information products with a particular focus on the web, digital media, internal communications and cross-departmental promotional material.

Main Purpose

Reporting to the Office Director, the Section Head conceptualizes and executes the programmatic course and vision for the IAEA public website, digital media, web governance, flagship periodicals and topic-oriented information products issued in up to six language editions for general audiences.

Role

The Section Head is: (1) a leader and manager responsible for the research, design, production and development of the IAEA corporate public website and related information products and services; (2) an executive editor overseeing the planning, preparation and production of information products for general audiences on all aspects of the IAEA mission; (3) an adviser to the Director on matters of digital communication policy, strategy resource planning and technological development with a view to increasing public communication programmes' efficiency and effectiveness; (4) a project leader, overseeing project management teams, including to launch, migrate and develop digital platforms, to develop and implement web governance, and to implement a multilingual strategy.

Functions / Key Results Expected

Manage the production and development of the IAEA public information website and digital media with a view to achieving wider recognition of the IAEA's roles and wider public use of the communication products through established and emerging digital communication channels.

Oversee the production and development of IAEA public information periodicals and products issued in multilingual editions in print and digital formats in order to improve awareness of the IAEA's contribution to issues on the global nuclear agenda.

Advise and support the Director on matters of digital communication policy, strategy, technological changes impacting communication platforms and channels, resource planning for the public information programme in support of results-based management intended to maintain and improve access to information by IAEA constituencies, nuclear communicators and potential target audiences.

Serve on relevant communication internal bodies, manage project teams to implement medium-term projects related to needed technological developments, web governance and multilingual strategy.

Build and maintain professional relationships with counterparts in strategic partner organizations and professional bodies and forums so as to advance understanding of communication problems, opportunities and methods, and to improve the coordination of public information on high-profile, cross-cutting issues.
