**The position***:
The Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies of the University of Vienna is home to all the historical departments at the University of Vienna. The institutes, working groups and specialised libraries that exist today are spread across various locations at the University of Vienna. The Institute for Austrian Historical Research, which was founded in 1854, has a special status among all other departments. The Institute was initially run as an organisational unit of the federal government and was integrated into the Faculty of History and Cultural Studies in 2016. The Institute of Austrian Historical Research is an internationally recognised research and training centre for methodology and the cultivation of historical auxiliary sciences (palaeography, documentary studies, archaeology, source studies, etc.) in their cultural-historical context on the one hand, and for research into the history of the Habsburg Monarchy and its successor states on the other. Through its close institutional connection with the Institute for Jewish History of Austria in St. Pölten, the Institute has established an additional focus in the field of Jewish history. The Institute cooperates with the Institute of Jewish Studies, which specialises in philological and religious studies, as well as with the Institutes of History and Contemporary History.
