**University Assistant (post doc)**
**at **the **Department of Environmental Geosciences**

Research interests of the group include (but are not limited to) bio-mineral interactions including microbially catalyzed redox processes and nutrient acquisition, biomineralization and weathering, as well as key processes in the mobilization or immobilization of inorganic pollutants. Your goal should be to arrive at a process oriented understanding of these interactions on the molecular scale. We employ numerical models to achieve a quantitative understanding of the thermodynamics and kinetics of such processes. A new research focus of the group is the interaction of DNA and RNA with mineral surfaces and the preservation of pathogen (viral or microbial), human, plant and microbial DNA and RNA in contexts such as anthropology, ecology, and the use of next-generation genetically modified plants.

We have excellent laboratory infrastructure for spectroscopy, trace metal analytics and mineral characterization, plant and microbial cultivation, a clean room laboratory, a glove box laboratory, and a MC-ICP-MS isotope lab as well as labs for general experimental work in geochemistry. We are part of the MINERVA (Mineralogical Preservation of the Human Biome for the Depth of Time) research platform and of the Environmental Science Research Network of the University of Vienna.

**Extent of Employment**: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: -48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

**Profile**:
We look for geochemists or environmental engineers with experiences in mineral surface chemistry, bio-mineral interactions, etc. A Doctoral/PhD degree is required. Strong quantitative skills are highly desirable. Excellent command of written and spoken English is essential, German language skills are not needed.
