This position is located at the United Nations Security and Safety Service (SSS-Vienna), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).
The Security and Safety Service (SSS) is comprised of the Office of the Chief and three Units: Operations, Special Operations and Operations Support.
The Operations Unit consists of the Perimeter Sub-Unit, the Fire Sub-Unit and the Tour Sub-Unit (composed of four Teams).
The Special Operations Unit consists of the Pass and ID Sub-Unit, and the Special Services Sub-Unit, which is composed of five Teams: Close Protection and Surveillance Detection, Executive Floors, Conference Security, Emergency Response and Canine Teams.
The Operations Support Unit consists of the Security Administration Sub-Unit, the Planning Team Sub-Unit, the Security Risk Management Sub-Unit, the Physical Security Sub-Unit, the Security Investigations Sub-Unit and the Training and Development Sub-Unit.
Under the overall command of the Chief of Service, the Security Sergeant is required to perform armed security functions and reports directly to the respective Security Lieutenant or supervising officer in the assigned working area.
**Responsibilities**:
Within limits of delegated authority, the Security Sergeant may be responsible for the following duties in the assigned area of work:
- Organize and manage activities and operations of SSS-Vienna.
- Conduct daily briefings and assign officers to various functions or posts.
- Carry out inspections to ensure that officers on duty are discharging their functions appropriately.
- Directly supervise staff under command.
- Brief officers under command of possible security threats and related operational plans.
- Make recommendations to the supervising officer on operational matters.
- Assure the proper maintenance of all relevant equipment and records.
- Assist in preparing security plans.
- Examine routine reports prepared by subordinates and certify their accuracy; prepare written reports of all unusual incidents.
- Assume command of emergency response operations or periods of heightened security situations until properly relieved.
- Maintain UN firearms qualifications standard
- Perform all other related duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent with supplementary security management or related training.
Job - Specific Qualification
Relevant training in supplementary security management or related is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in security management skills in different areas of security and safety operations is required.
Experience within the UN Security and Safety Service Vienna is desirable.
Previous experience within more than one UN Security and Safety functional area is desirable.
