The Mental Health Commission of NSW is seeking interested applicants for the position of Senior Project Officer, Strategic Planning and Projects Team within the Directorate of System Reform. This is an exciting opportunity to join a small fast paced team that is committed to strategic planning and mental health reform as part of achieving the Commission’s required statutory functions.  The Commission is a small agency of about 30 FTE based in the Sydney CBD and working flexibly within hybrid workplace guidelines.  **Where you’ll be working:** The Mental Health Commission of NSW is a statutory agency, working to improve the mental health and wellbeing of the community. We are committed to ensuring people live well on their own terms, having the services and supports they need.  The Commission works with government agencies, peak bodies, community-managed organisations, academics, advocacy groups and service providers. Visit us at: **[http://www.nswmentalhealthcommission.com.au](http://www.nswmentalhealthcommission.com.au/)** **About the role:** The Senior Project Officer, Strategic Planning and Projects, works in a team that is responsible for: - Developing whole of government strategic plans/frameworks to improve community mental health and wellbeing across the domains of a person's life - Commissioning and disseminating research and innovative initiatives to inform and support systemic mental health reform initiatives - Strengthening integration, coordination and collaboration across government and the broader mental health and social service system to facilitate systemic reform efforts, embedding the leadership and expertise of people with lived experience. **Key accountabilities ** - Prepare frameworks and strategies that respond to emerging mental health issues and ensure they are co-designed with people with lived experience and other stakeholders and take into account the broader context across the mental health and wellbeing sector - Develop, lead and manage strategic projects ensuring they are co-designed with people with lived experience and caring and relevant organisations. - Undertake environmental scanning of systemic issues relevant to the reform priorities of the Commission to inform projects and strategies. - Actively seek the views and experiences of people with a lived experience, caring, their families and kinship groups to help shape the reform agenda. - Actively engage with the sector to promote and facilitate the sharing of knowledge and information about mental health issues to improve outcomes and improve people’s experiences of services and supports - Prepare high quality briefs, discussion papers, correspondence and presentations to support the information needs of the Executive and Commissioners. - Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of a broad range of communications including Ministerial briefings, correspondence, parliamentary question responses, speech notes, presentations and discussion papers. - Undertake research activities as required. **Key challenges ** - Managing small to medium projects involving consultants and contractors. - Delivering well considered work to a high quality within short or urgent timeframes. - Managing consultations, negotiations and cross-agency partnership arrangements on sensitive and related issues with a wide range of stakeholders of varying philosophies, priorities, capacities and interests. **Essential requirements** 1. Extensive knowledge, background and experience working in mental health, and in system reform. 2. Knowledge and strong analytical skills in writing reports on key areas relevant to mental health, suicide prevention or health reform. 3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to organise and present complex information in a clear, logical and systematic way. 4. Strong project and contract management skills. 5. Ability to develop and manage evaluation and review projects. 6. Strong ability to engage with stakeholders on a range of Commission priority areas. 7. Ability to display initiative; sound organisational skills, capacity to multi-task, meet deadlines and prioritise work in a high-volume work area. 8. Demonstrated ability to work independently or as a member of an effective, multi-disciplinary team. 9. Knowledge and understanding of the role of the NSW Mental Health Commission and the mental health sector.
