**About us** Pacific National (PN) is the largest private provider of diversified rail freight services in Australia. We are incredibly proud of the essential role we continue to play supporting Australia’s supply chain and take great pride in delivering our best every day and have a relentless focus on customer service and place **safety above all else**. **About the role** Reporting to the Manager - External Reporting & Accounting, the Financial Accountant will play a pivotal role in the timely and reliable delivery of monthly, half yearly and year end reports for the board and external stakeholders. This will include corporate accounting and reporting, including statutory and regulatory reporting, treasury accounting, month end processing and analysis. **Key responsibilities include:** - Oversee and lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements in line with GAAP/IFRS and other relevant accounting standards. - Perform comprehensive financial analyses, including variance, trend, and reconciliation analyses to support external reporting. - Develop and monitor internal controls to ensure compliance with financial standards. - Act as primary point of contact for external auditors, during the audit process. - Identify and implement opportunities for improving processes within the financial reporting and accounting functions. - Cross Collaboration with other finance teams, including tax, treasury, and financial planning & analysis, to ensure alignment and accuracy across financial reporting processes. - Mentor and support junior accounting staff and new team members **About you** To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced Senior Financial Accountant with an in-depth knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and financial reporting standards. You will have demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills as well as experience coaching and guiding junior and new team members. In addition, will possess the following skills, experience and attributes: - Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field - Chartered Big 4 and commercial background advantageous - CA/CPA qualification - Advanced Microsoft Excel skills - Experience with Oracle / PeopleSoft, TM1, and Visual Risk would be advantageous - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely - Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under tight deadlines **The benefits** At Pacific National we value diversity, inclusion, and the contribution of each team member.
