About the Job

We are seeking an exceptional researcher to lead our Integrated Photonics Technologies Research Unit at Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) in Villach. As a Head of Research Unit, you will be responsible for managing and further developing the research unit, including staff responsibility, corporate and profit management, project initiation and management, international partner acquisition, and shaping the research program.

Job Description

The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of integrated photonics, MEMS, and quantum photonics technologies. You will be expected to lead the Research Unit to a world-class level, define research topics, invest in resources and infrastructures, and manage cooperative and funded research projects. A strong understanding of CMOS manufacturing process steps and constraints on design is essential.

Your Profile

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • In-depth knowledge of advanced photonic sensors, e.g., integrated photonics, MEMS, and MOEMS, optoelectronics, and micro/nanophotonic devices.
  • Expertise in photonic integrated circuits/MOEMS/quantum photonics, including integrated photonics technologies, integrated quantum photonics, and proficiency with manufacturing processes.
  • A strong understanding of the worldwide market and European industrial ecosystem for integrated photonics.
  • Outstanding research achievements at an international level in relevant areas, with a proven record of team leading experience in industry and research.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as fluency in English (written & oral), German is a plus.

Salary and Benefits

Estimated salary: €85,000 - €120,000 (annual, based on an All-in contract and bonus). Gross salary paid 14 times a year.
