We are seeking a highly qualified Pharmaceutical Process Optimization Engineer to join our team at the Research Center Pharmaceutical Engineering GmbH in Graz, Austria.

About the Role

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing cutting-edge research focused on engineering-driven optimization of conventional operating strategies present in biological processes within the pharmaceutical industry. This exciting opportunity is part of an EU collaboration with several industrial and academic partners.

The project tasks will involve:

  • Modeling of individual unit operations (e.g., fermentation, purification, ...) using data-driven and hybrid modeling algorithms
  • Design of (model-based) control algorithms
  • Integration of model and control algorithms into a digital twin structure
  • The algorithms will be designed in a simulation environment and then transferred to the real system
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • An MS degree (or close to completion) in an engineering field (electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, chemical or pharmaceutical engineering, biorefinery engineering, mathematics, or related fields)
  • Knowledge (or strong interest/willingness to learn) in MATLAB/Simulink as well as in Python or similar tools
  • Knowledge (or strong interest/willingness to learn) in control-engineering topics as an advantage
  • Professional conduct and communication skills in dealing with international clients, partners, and colleagues
  • Interest and experience in performing top-level and target-oriented research at the interface of basic science and industrial application
  • Readiness to write a PhD thesis, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and participate in international conferences
