Job Description

Job Title: Senior Entomologist (P4) - Sterile Insect Technique Specialist

Job Summary:

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Entomologist (P4) to join its team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance on the development and implementation of Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) programs for the control of major plant insect pests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement SIT programs for the control of major plant insect pests, including the development of action plans and strategies for the suppression or eradication of pests.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to national and regional plant protection organizations on the use of SIT for insect pest control.
  • Conduct field evaluations and assessments of SIT programs to ensure their effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with national and regional plant protection organizations, as well as other stakeholders, to promote the use of SIT for insect pest control.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations on SIT programs and their results.
  • Collaborate with other IAEA departments and divisions to ensure that SIT programs are aligned with the Agency's overall goals and objectives.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in entomology or a related field with a strong emphasis on insect pest control.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in the development and implementation of SIT programs, including experience in developing countries.
  • Proven experience in managing and directing teams of experts in the field of insect pest control.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with national and regional plant protection organizations, as well as other stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to prepare and present technical reports and presentations.

Language: Excellent oral and written command of English is required. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Russian, and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration: The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $77,326, a variable post adjustment, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses, and other benefits.
