About the VGSO
The Victorian Government Solicitor's Office (VGSO) serves the rule of law exclusively for the State. The VGSO provides responsive legal services exclusively for the Victorian Government and public sector.
About the team
The Constitution & Advice Team is part of the Public Law & Planning Branch at VGSO. The team's practice spans both advice work and litigation, focusing on constitutional matters and judicial review proceedings.
The team's subject areas include:
State and federal constitutional law;
The application, interpretation and development of legislation;
Public sector governance and integrity;
Integrity body inquiries;
Victoria's First Peoples, including Treaty;
Judicial review of administrative decisions
About the role
An exciting opportunity has become available for a lawyer with public law experience to join our team to assist in responding to the growing demand for our legal services. You will provide quality legal services to government clients and work on high profile public interest matters.
Skills and experience
Proven ability to provide written and oral advice on public law (preferably including constitutional law)
Experience conducting administrative and public law litigation matters
Excellent legal research and analytical skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to both work in a team and autonomously
Enthusiasm for working in a government law office and on novel legal issues
Experience in acting for government, local government or statutory authorities would be advantageous
