The Business Unit Technical team is a small, dedicated team of technical and operational specialists based in Australia who provide direct support to the operations.

Reporting to the VP – Technical (Africa), the Principal: Tailings Engineer is accountable for providing operational, technical and governance support related to tailings engineering across the Africa Business Unit.
Acting as the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE) for select operations, the Principal Tailings Engineer will manage the Engineer of Record (EoR) and provide technical support to the Operational Tailings Management Team at each site.
This position requires on-site presence with quarterly travel to the operations.
Applicants should be prepared for international travel and be away 30%.
This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to be based in Perth and have the ability to travel and work in Africa in diverse and challenging operations.
Accountabilities: Provide guidance and expert technical support with regard to the operation of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF) in the region.Act as RTFE for select AGA tailings facilities if required.Drive compliance to AGA Tailings Management Framework to achieve compliance with the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) and all existing permits and licenses.Manage EoR activities.Participate in business planning (Quarterly Plan, Annual Budget & Capital, Strategic Options) cycles in terms of tailings facility operations, capital planning and updating of storage calculations.Participate in regional Projects in terms of tailings facility requirements.Engage with AGA Corporate Technical Office (CTO) Tailings Group.Track progress and outcomes of all initiatives.
Compile and present regular reports to the Vice President Technical Africa.Provide input to TSF LoM planning regarding strategy, capacity maintenance, budget and eventual closure across all operations.Review, interpret and report on site monthly monitoring data relating to tailings storage facilities.About You People are at the heart of everything we do.

To be considered, you will demonstrate:
A degree qualification in a relevant mining-related discipline.At least 10 years relevant experience in the mining industry.Track record of finding practical and innovative solutions to tailings disposal.Displays analytical and innovative thinking resulting in continuous improvement and adding value.Background in tailings design consultancy is desirable.Ability to take a whole-of-business perspective in managing multiple competing priorities and reconciling these with the Company's strategic priorities.A strong commitment towards leading a safe work culture.Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with people at all levels within the organisation.The ability to obtain a National Police Clearance.Have existing and ongoing valid Australian working rights (Mandatory).Culture and Benefits Our workplace demonstrates dignity and respect for each other, we offer challenging work, highly competitive remuneration that is regularly adjusted to market conditions and career development opportunities.
