Position Title: Media & Communications Officer
Organisation: Queensland Council of Unions
Time fraction: Full time permanent role
Salary: Commencing from $125,151.94 to $140,036.92 depending on skills and experience [Plus 15% superannuation]
About Queensland Unions The Queensland Council of Unions (QCU) is the peak union body in Queensland.
It is comprised of 26 affiliated unions, representing 400,000 union members.
Our Mission Statement is "Leading Unions to achieve social and economic justice for Queensland workers".
Job Purpose & Reporting The principal role of the Media Communications Officer position is to coordinate and manage the media strategy and communications and publications for the QCU.
The position will report to the General Secretary for media management and the Assistant General Secretary for communications and publications.
Key Responsibilities Develop strategies, including key messaging to support QCU campaigns and effective engagement with external media;Draft and produce media releases and copy for communications including relevant newsletters, emails and other forms of written engagement with affiliates, activists, and external stakeholders;Provide support for graphic design for QCU communications;Manage day-to-day engagement with external media and arrange interviews as required;Build the profile of the Queensland Council of Unions, including the QCU General Secretary as a strong effective voice and advocate for Queensland working families;Coach and mentor other media and communications officers within affiliate unions to help build their capacity.Required Knowledge and Experience Tertiary qualifications in communications or public/media relations is highly desirable.Proven previous experience in a communication, media/PR role within the union movement, politics, or with a social justice-based organisation.Skills and Abilities High level communication and interpersonal skills.Well developed capacity to develop strategy and key messaging for media content.Proven capacity to manage projects and meet competing deadlines.Ability to write effective and engaging content.Well developed personal organisational and administrative skills.Demonstrated ability to work as a collaborative team member.Capacity to self-manage own time and work and to meet competing deadlines.Personal Attributes High level ability to work with staff in collaborative projects and to promote a cooperative and cohesive team approach.Demonstrated commitment to the values and principles of trade unionism and ability to work with a diverse range of stakeholders within the trade union movement.Demonstrated commitment to the respect and values of cultural and social diversity both within the workforce and the community.Other This is a full-time permanent position based in Brisbane.
