We are committed to cultivating an equal, diverse, and inclusive environment for our staff, residents, and stakeholders.Job DescriptionThe OpportunityAs a Senior Legal Counsel within the Legal & Governance team at Housing Choices Australia (HCA), you will play a pivotal role in providing strategic legal and governance support to ensure the success of our mission to deliver safe, affordable, and sustainable housing outcomes. Reporting to the Executive General Manager, Legal, Governance & Risk, you will be part of a collaborative team, offering reliable, high-quality legal advice on corporate, commercial, property, and regulatory matters. This is an opportunity to work on high-impact projects and shape the legal framework within which HCA operates, contributing to our strategic objectives while working closely with business partners, external legal counsel, and key regulators.What you'll doProvide expert legal advice on corporate, commercial, property, and debt financing matters.Support property acquisitions, developments, and social housing projects, including project finance structuring.Negotiate, prepare, and review legal documents for transactions, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective decision-making and legal governance.Liaise with external lawyers and regulators to ensure legal compliance and cost-effective services.Advise the Risk, Assurance, and Compliance team on regulatory and governance requirements.Contribute to the development of policies, processes, and systems to ensure best practices in legal and corporate governance.Brief management and the Board on key legal matters and ensure legal aspects align with HCA's strategic goals.Desired Skills and ExperienceWhat you'll bring:You will bring a wealth of legal expertise, commercial acumen, and a commitment to delivering positive outcomes for Housing Choices Australia. With over 8 years of post-admission experience and a strong foundation in corporate, commercial, or property law, you will be adept at managing complex legal matters across a broad range of sectors. Your ability to think critically, provide sound legal advice, and effectively communicate with non-legal stakeholders will be essential in supporting HCA's mission. Additionally, you will demonstrate a passion for the not-for-profit or community sector, contributing to projects that create a lasting impact.Genuine interest in social justice and the not-for-profit sector.8+ years post-admission experience and a current practicing certificate in law.Expertise in corporate, commercial, or property law, including property acquisitions, developments, or debt financing transactions.Strong analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills, with sound commercial judgement.Proven ability to draft and negotiate legal documents, including finance and corporate agreements.Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.Demonstrated experience managing stakeholder relationships, including government bodies, regulators, and clients.Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.A proactive approach to driving change and delivering practical, creative legal solutions in support of HCA's goals.What we offer in return5 Weeks Annual LeaveFlexible working arrangementsSalary Packaging for living expenses, meal, and entertainment expensesRecognition programSalary Continuance Insurance16 weeks paid parental leavePlease note that it is a minimum requirement of this position that all appointments are made subject to a satisfactory National Criminal History or Police Check conducted by Housing Choices Australia and the successful post holder to:Agree and undergo any other employment screening as required by Housing Choices - including but not restricted to Working with Children or Vulnerable Persons and NDIS Worker (this will be as applicable based on the state location and/or function of the role)Agree and comply with Child Safety policies and proceduresProvide a current driver's license and willingness to travel across Housing Choices' locations, if and as required.
