PRIMARY DETAILExciting opportunity for a Teaching and Research academic to develop and contribute to innovative and impactful teaching in Exercise and Sports Science.
Salary Package: Lecturer (Level C), from $146,324 to $168,275 p.a. or Associate Professor (Level D) $175,731 - $193,296 p.a., plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.
Appointment Type: Full time, continuing position.
Macquarie University (North Ryde) location. The Role We seek a highly motivated exercise/sports scientist to join our department as Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor for appointment to the Research and Teaching (comprehensive) job family. You will have expertise in teaching and/or research in motor control and learning/skill acquisition and be able to contribute to one or more of the other sub-disciplines of exercise and sports science such as biomechanics, exercise physiology, sports psychology and/or exercise prescription.
Reporting to the Head of Department, the comprehensive Teaching and Research Academic will be expected to actively engage in a research program, contribute to the teaching of exercise and sports science at the undergraduate level, supervise higher degree research students, and fulfill service roles to the Department and/or Faculty.
About You You will be actively engaged in exercise and sports science, research and/or education, with expertise in motor control and learning/skill acquisition; you may also be able to contribute to the other sub-disciplines of exercise and sports science. You will have experience with, or a willingness to embrace, educational technology, blended learning and educational innovation. In addition, ideally you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the integration between research/practice and quality teaching, and how this integration can enhance student engagement.
About Us The Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS) is ambitiously pushing the boundaries of progressive thinking and challenging what's possible to solve some of the big issues of our time, both nationally and on a global scale. The Faculty's current education suite includes courses in exercise and sports science, clinical science, physiotherapy, medicine and public health, psychology, cognitive sciences, linguistics, audiology, and speech pathology. The Faculty forms part of MQ Health, an integrated academic health sciences enterprise which incorporates Macquarie University Hospital and primary and specialty clinics. We have active research programs in exercise and sports science, neurosciences, health systems and patient safety research, cancer medicine, and clinical sciences, amongst others. The Department of Health Sciences comprises academics and researchers from exercise and sports science, physiotherapy, population health, and lymphoedema management. In research, the department includes the Biomechanics, Physical Performance, and Exercise (BioPPEx) research group, a multi-disciplinary group that focuses on improving performance and decreasing injuries in humans. Essential Tertiary qualification in exercise science or sports science, including a PhD in the area of motor control and learning/skill acquisition.
Demonstrated experience in teaching in exercise and sports science with expertise in motor control/learning in an academic setting.
Demonstrated experience in teaching in additional sub-disciplines of exercise and sports science in an academic setting.
A commitment and capability to deliver high-quality learning and teaching in exercise and sports science, including the design, delivery, and management of online content, lectures, tutorials, and assessments.
A well-articulated research agenda and a track record of publications in high-quality journals.
A demonstrated ability to attract external funding for research and a record of competitive grant successes.
Experience with research student supervision.
Desirable for all applicants Current accreditation with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA), or the ability and willingness to gain.
Appointment to either Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor will be in accordance with demonstrated qualifications, skills, and experience. Specific role requirements This position requires criminal record and qualifications checking.
