The Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV) is a leader in driving sustainable growth across Queensland.
Our mission is to manage water resources responsibly and empower councils to support and grow Queensland communities.
About the Role
The Director Water Planning and Science leads a team to deliver water planning activities across the south region, including aquatic ecology science programs with extensive First Nations stakeholder engagement.
The role is responsible for all water planning activities required for the 11 water plans located within the south region.
Lead a team of over 30 staff: Deliver water planning and implementation of science functions/First Nations engagement within South Region.
Contribute to water plans and Ministerial Reports: Review and develop water plans for the 11 water plans in south region.
Undertake technical assessments: Conduct environmental, economic, social, hydrologic, and cultural data assessments, as well as stakeholder engagement to understand and plan for further water needs.
Engage with the Commonwealth: Represent the department at accredited water resource plans and other Commonwealth related matters.
Represent the department: Engage with key state and national water initiatives and forums.
Deliver science programs: Support water planning and intergovernmental agreements through science-related programs.
Lead First Nations engagement: Understand and deliver indigenous water reserves through engagement with First Nations people.
About You
Water planning experience: Manage multiple programs of work in water planning or water policy.
Team leadership experience: Lead a team to enable business success.
Project management experience: Utilize Power BI for project management.
Strategic leadership: Build excellent stakeholder relationships to represent the department at national water initiatives and forums.
Travel requirements: Travel away from the centre may be required.
