The ESTEEM Project (Exercise, Socialising and Thinking- an Environmental Enrichment Model in the community After Stroke) is an exciting research collaboration between Hunter New England Local Health District's Hunter Stroke Service (with Hunter Medical Research Institute) and Mercy Services.
About the Role We are recruiting a team of motivated and passionate people who are keen to improve the functional recovery and quality of life of stroke survivors.
The ESTEEM project aims to deliver a model of environmental enrichment to stroke survivors in the community to support their ongoing recovery and enhance their quality of life.
Developed collaboratively by stroke survivors, their carers, health professionals and members of the arts community, ESTEEM is a group program where people living with stroke come together twice a week to exercise, socialise and engage in arts-based activities such as visual arts, dancing and singing.
We are seeking an experienced Allied Health Assistant to assist with all aspects of running this program. Working out of West Wallsend, this position works collaboratively with other team members and project participants to assist with the coordination of all aspects of the activities provided.
This is a fixed term contract role that requires you to be available on Mondays & Wednesdays for 4 hour blocks (8hrs p/wk). To be successful for this position you must possess: Completion or working towards completion of Certificate IV Allied Health Assistance or similar relevant qualificationsA genuine passion for helping people and enriching their lives through activityPositivity, a supportive nature and a demonstrated ability to display compassion and empathyProfessionalism and alignment with the values and ethos of Mercy ServicesDemonstrated high level verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiencesAbility to liaise with a wide range of customers from diverse social and cultural backgroundsDemonstrated interest and/or experience working with people with a disability or after strokeDemonstrated ability to conduct therapeutic activities on a one-to-one basis and in groupsDemonstrated ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team environmentAbility to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and complete activities as delegated by supervising ProfessionalThe safety of our clients and residents is absolutely paramount.
