Position Context Sydney Metropolitan Institute of Technology (Sydney Met) is a registered private higher education institute with a vision for socially equitable and culturally responsive education.

The Department of Social Work and Development at Sydney Met is expanding.
Through our Department of Social Work and Development, Sydney Met currently delivers the undergraduate Bachelor of Social Work, accredited with TEQSA and provisionally accredited with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), and is currently seeking accreditation for the postgraduate Master of Social Work (Qualifying), Graduate Diploma in Human and Community Services, and Graduate Certificate in Human and Community Services.
We are seeking passionate, values-driven social work staff to join Sydney Met with values consistent with the Sydney Met ethos and a demonstrated commitment to quality teaching and learning as we roll out the Bachelor of Social Work, grow our student numbers, and plan for the anticipated Master of Social Work (Qualifying).

The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in social work reports to the Head of Social Work and Development and will be responsible for designing, delivering, and continuously improving high-quality, student-centred teaching and assessments for the Bachelor of Social Work and for developing units for the anticipated Master of Social Work (Qualifying) to achieve positive student outcomes and student experience.
The successful applicant will also collaborate with academic staff within and outside the Department of Social Work and Development to improve teaching, learning, and assessment across the College.
Working with the Head, Social Work and Development, the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor will strengthen, maintain, and grow partnerships with industry.

Key Accountabilities Contributing to departmental teaching in areas of expertise.
Engaging with initiatives to support continuous improvement of teaching, learning, assessment, and student experience for the department, aligned with Sydney Met's vision and policy.
Supporting and maintaining partnerships with industry relevant to social work field education, student placement, and community development.
Maintaining and improving teaching and assessment materials to ensure positive student outcomes and student experience.
Contributing to a positive culture within the department aligned with Sydney Met values, including promoting respect, inclusion, and teamwork when engaging with staff across the College.
Implementing strategies from the Sydney Met Strategic Plan, Teaching and Learning Plan and generative Artificial Intelligence Action Plan at the departmental level as required.
Engaging in scholarly activity and research in areas of social work and/or community development as appropriate to the role.
Engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration in teaching, scholarship, and/or research within and outside the College as required.
Contributing to broader College initiatives, including through leadership of committees and working groups, as agreed with the Head, Social Work and Development.

Other Duties (as required): Contribute to Academic Board sub-committees as a representative of the Department.
Attend College events/forums.
Contribute to College marketing, recruitment, and community engagement.
Observe principles and practices of Equal Employment Opportunity.
Comply with Work, Health and Safety responsibilities, accountabilities, and authorities at Sydney Met.
Work within Sydney Met's governance framework.

Qualifications: Lecturer Professional social work qualification (Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work (Qualifying)).
Membership/eligible for full membership of AASW.
Masters or doctoral level qualification in a cognate field.
Either completed or enrolled in a Ph D in an area relevant to social work and/or community development.
Senior Lecturer Professional social work qualification (Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work (Qualifying)).
Membership/eligible for full membership of AASW.
Either completed or enrolled in a Ph D in an area relevant to social work and/or community development substantial experience in social work practice.
Substantial experience in social work practice.
Associate Professor Membership/eligible for full membership of AASW.
Completed Ph D in an area relevant to social work and/or community development.
Substantial experience in social work practice.

Selection Criteria Qualifications as noted above.
Demonstrated teaching experience and understanding of contemporary teaching and learning practices for working with diverse student cohorts.
Research and scholarship in a relevant discipline consistent with the level of appointment.
At least two years of practice in the field of social work, with experience and exposure to social work field education and student placement.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional networks in the social work or human services sector.
High-level spoken and written communication skills for working with teams and organisations, including skills for building strong, effective professional relationships.
