We have an exciting opportunity for a Chief Biochemistry Scientist to lead and oversee departmental testing and operations whilst fostering a collaborative and high performing environment in the laboratory.The Chief Biochemistry Scientist will manage the development, validation, implementation and protocols and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.This role involves strategic planning, client and resource management to optimise laboratory performance support clinical needs.As the Chief Biochemistry Scientist, you will be responsible for:Manage the department's annual operating plan and financial budgetsMonitor and report on monthly financial KPI's.Prepare and submit recommendations for capital expenditureEnsure staff numbers for the department meet business requirements and KPI'sPrepare, submit for approval, and implement a detailed annual business plan for the departmentEnsure business unit requirements are understood and focused onOversight of departmental testing, development and validation of methodsMaintain current scientific knowledge via appropriate resources (e.g., journals, scientific meetings, market developments in equipment and relevant technology).Ensure all work practices and procedures are in place and followed by all department employees to ensure compliance with NATA/TGA/NPACC and the company's systemProactively drive quality and workflow improvement initiativesCollaborate with P&C to manage the recruitment and selection of all department employees by following the company's recruitment and selection policy and proceduresEnsure new employees receive induction to their new workplace and support the ongoing development of employees' skills and knowledge to meet job requirementsManage employee work performance and morale and address poor performance in a timely mannerEnsuring SLA are met including client TAT requirementsProviding expert statements or witness if requiredAbout youTo be considered for this position, you will need to meet the following essential requirements:Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent (AIMS Recognised)6 years' experience as a senior scientist in related field with exposure across pathologyMinimum 2 years in a senior supervisory role with management of rosters, KPIs, turnaround times and performance managementProven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide staffSelf-initiative and problem-solving capabilitiesDrive continuous improvement and innovation in laboratory practicesAbility to foster a collaborative environment that encourages teamwork and knowledge sharingExceptional attention to detail and accuracyThis role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department specific vaccine preventative diseasesBenefits and WellbeingAs part of working for Healius, you will have access to a range of benefits including:A marketplace of exclusive discounts and vouchers from leading Australian and online retailers.Corporate health insurance discounts, banking benefits and novated leasing consultations.An e-learning platform with access to a library of courses and learning paths.An Employee Assistance Program dedicated to employee health and wellbeing provided by professional coaches.Fitness Passport - access fitness centres across Australia at a subsidised rateCareer growth opportunities across the Healius networkBeing a part of a large ASX-listed organization focused on delivering positive outcomes to all AustraliansOur commitment to diversity and inclusionDorevitch Pathology is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating an inclusive workplace.
