Our team includes:
Construction division, delivering complex projects Australia-wide, designed to extend, repair, and repurpose existing facilities, along with new commercial and industrial builds.
Insulated Panel division, specialising in cold rooms, freezers, chillers and process facilities Australia-wide.
Modular & Doorshop division, locally designing and manufacturing custom portable buildings, insulated panel doors and fixings.
Steelshop division, on-site processing & fabrication of structural steel, racking, access components & metalwork items.
Maintenance division, agile small teams performing scheduled & emergency servicing & maintenance of cold rooms & freezers through Qld and NSW.
The role
We are seeking a Health and Safety / HSE Manager who:
Works collaboratively to empower teams to deliver a high standard of health and safety.
Is a leader who enjoys being a meaningful part of getting the job done.
Tasks & responsibilities
Provide expert advice and support to SBP on all health and safety matters.
Continue the improvement, development and embedding of health and safety policy, standards, systems, and business initiatives across all divisions and sites.
Stay current in leading HSE practices, legislation, regulations, and obligations to bring new and innovative ideas to SBP.
Collaborate with cross-functional Project teams including Construction personnel, Estimating and Design Managers to integrate safety considerations into project planning, design, and execution.
Support Project teams, providing guidance and support with documentation such as Project Safety Plans, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Project Risk Registers, and advice on compliance, training needs, emergency and incident response.
Conduct regular site and factory/workshop inspections and audits to identify potential safety hazards and assess the effectiveness of safety measures.
Implement, communicate and periodically audit the compliance requirements necessary to achieve SBP's health and safety management plan across all divisions.
Design and deliver safety bulletins, toolboxes, training, upskilling and induction programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Conduct and lead investigations, provide meaningful reports and corrective actions.
Act as RTW Coordinator, including arranging & at times, attending appointments with ill/injured workers, and liaising with WorkCover.
Oversee the internal and external calibration of equipment in line with AS/NZS Standards.
Provide advice & guidance with the identification and assessment of potential health hazards and any required worker health surveillance/monitoring.
Maintain and report safety performance statistics (incidents, labour hours, frequency rates), identifying trends and implementing corrective actions.
Act as the point of contact for external regulators and third parties where necessary in relation to health and safety matters.
Willing and able to travel and work away from home for short periods on various projects throughout Australia if/when required.
Qualifications & experience
At least 5 years of experience as a Health & Safety / HSE Manager or Senior Health & Safety / HSE Coordinator in a commercial and industrial construction environment is a must.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills across a diverse range of stakeholders with the confidence to hold others to account.
Highly effective problem-solver; exceptional ability to analyse problems, develop solutions, and make decisions.
Tertiary qualifications in safety, or at a minimum Diploma with extensive experience.
Procore experience is desirable.
Able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and be resourceful/self-reliant in investigating and enquiring into issues.
Strong grasp of construction methodologies specifically relating to industrial and commercial construction, with the ability to understand and interpret drawings and design documentation advantageous.
