Aethon Aerial Solutions provides Pole Inspection, Vegetation Monitoring, and Corridor/Wide Area Mapping to local Energy Companies for fire mitigation purposes throughout Australia and New Zealand.
We require an experienced Airborne Systems Operator initially on a casual basis available to start and travel throughout Australia and New Zealand in early 2025.
As an essential service, you will be available to travel for extended periods and are comfortable working in light aircraft and helicopters to support our Aerial survey operations.
Primary Responsibilities Adherence to the AAS Field crew code of conductActively participate in and contribute to operational safety processes, policies, and proceduresEvaluating sun angles, tidal, and weather forecasts for projectsAssist in the submission of flight planning to Air Traffic Control and pilotEvaluate accommodation and transport options for field operationsParticipate in pre-flight and post-flight safety checksAssist with equipment installation, alignment, calibration, and testingOperation of airborne LiDAR and/or digital imagery systems and ancillary systemsRecording and upload of flight logs and daily reportsMonitoring in-flight quality of sensor data, trajectories, and overall flight performanceAssist in the routine maintenance and troubleshooting of sensors and other in-flight equipmentQC of data and trajectoriesDispatch field data in a timely fashionBe confident operating in small aircraft for extended periodsFlight and crew management to ensure safe and efficient data collectionAssist in monitoring for airborne/ground hazardsData download, archive, and delivery to relevant site office dailyMaintain the security and integrity of all aerial systems and platformsOther duties to assist the field team as requiredKey performance indicators Strong Computer and IT skillsCompliance with all Operational Health, Safety, and Quality obligations and proceduresOperate Aerial Systems and associated equipment in accordance with standard operating proceduresMaintain 0 remobilisation to site refly's due to operator error or oversightComplete required reporting protocols daily to a high standard with Identification and reporting of any anomalies found during capture or post-flight within 24 hoursComplete administrative duties weekly with a high degree of accuracy and careDispatch of collected data before 12pm the following day - 12pm Monday for data captured over a weekendRequirements 2+ years' experience in Aerial Survey utilising either Optech Galaxy series and/or Riegl LMS/VQ Series sensors and integrated cameras (Preferred, however experience with alternative sensors will be considered)Comfortable operating in light aircraft for extended periods, both high and low level altitude operationsExperience in post-acquisition activities e.g.
Coverage checks, GPS data processingCompetent in the use of GIS and flight planning software packages, as applicable to the type of sensor the candidate is experienced withAble to be deployed for extended periods, often in remote locations at short notice.
