In this role, you'll directly contribute to protecting our vital industries, environment, and Australia's economic growth.
Our Compliance & Enforcement Division monitors and assesses risk to enhance compliance through effective regulatory intervention, ranging from education to enforcement safeguarding our economy, trade, environment, and agriculture.
This is where you play an important role.
You will conduct intelligence-informed investigations into serious non-compliance of portfolio legislation, utilising the full suite of regulatory sanctions available to the department, including criminal prosecution, civil sanctions, and administrative actions.
Your work will ensure Australia continues to thrive in global markets.
The Job Investigator duties will include but are not limited to:
Conducting investigations into alleged breaches of portfolio and other relevant Commonwealth legislation including significant, complex, and protracted matters.
Taking statements, conducting records of interview, and drafting, applying for, and executing warrants.
Preparing and presenting high-quality briefs of evidence for criminal and civil proceedings.
Contributing to the continuous improvement of the Investigations Branch business outcomes, including the development and implementation of enforcement strategies and policies.
Establishing and maintaining effective and productive relationships with departmental staff, counterparts in other agencies, and industry groups.
Representing the branch and the department at a range of internal and external settings.
Taking part in various proactive strategies to promote and encourage voluntary compliance in a regulatory environment.
Contributing to the development of a professional investigation team.
Under limited supervision, coordinating and preparing reports, correspondence, and systems assessments regarding risks and vulnerabilities in the department's operating environment.
Contributing to the management of corporate functions including property, information technology security, and finances.
Undertaking a broad range of administrative tasks to support the section and the director.
Please note: This recruitment process will initially be used to fill the vacancies in the section.
The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.
What we are looking for Knowledge and experience The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:
Experience in law enforcement and/or experience with a regulatory agency and will need to demonstrate contemporary criminal and/or civil investigations and investigation management skills and competence.
Skills and capabilities Well-developed investigations skills.
A high level of integrity, confidentiality, and strong interpersonal skills.
An ability to show initiative and good judgment.
An ability to multi-task while achieving results in a challenging and dynamic environment.
Mandatory qualifications Possession of a Cert IV in Government Investigations or the ability to achieve this qualification within 12 months of engagement is essential.
