The opportunity we have available
The Strategic Fleet Program Team is responsible for implementing the Australian Government's commitment to establishing a strategic fleet of 12 Australian flagged and crewed vessels.
The vessels will be privately owned and commercially operated, and will be available to the Commonwealth to requisition in times of need, crisis or national emergency.
The strategic fleet will strengthen Australia's supply chains, enable the movement of critical cargo during crises and emergencies, and provide employment and training opportunities to improve Australia's maritime workforce capability.
The team's functions include establishing and managing a Strategic Fleet Pilot Program (SFPP) Standing Offer Panel, which is seeking the first three strategic fleet vessels, and developing policy to implement recommendations from the Strategic Fleet Taskforce.

The key duties of the position include: What will you do?
The Strategic Fleet Program Team has multiple APS 6 Senior Policy Officer positions available.
As a Senior Policy Officer, you will be responsible for contributing to the implementation of recommendations from the Taskforce.
The work will be varied and dynamic, but will include:
working in close collaboration with stakeholders to develop options and modelling for potential levies to support the ongoing sustainability of the strategic fleet developing legislative options to provide a regulatory power to requisition strategic fleet vessels supporting a Post Implementation Review of the Strategic Fleet Pilot Program developing options to expand the strategic fleet to 12 vessels, based on outcomes of the Post Implementation Review engaging States and Territory governments, to ensure the strategic fleet is able to effectively respond to a wide variety of scenarios in their jurisdictions providing advice on the department's linkages to whole of government initiatives that support national security outcomes drafting advice to inform Government decision making, including Cabinet submissions, ministerial briefs, and new policy proposals Who are we looking for?
The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate their capability against the APS6 Work level standards.

You will have the ability to communicate with influence with a diverse range of stakeholders, and will be adaptive to changing priorities.
You will work under limited direction and use your research and analysis skills to develop policy options for consideration by Senior Executives and the Government.

Minimum requirements for this role include:
Proven leadership skills and the ability to effectively coordinate work ensuring high quality and timely outcomes.
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, including strong attention to detail.
Ability to provide timely and concise advice to inform and support executive decision making.

You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances.
