Aged & Disability Support (Community Services & Development)
This position is authorised under the special provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act (Vic) because Mallee District Aboriginal Services considers Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are the most qualified persons for this role.
A Certificate of Aboriginality is required.
At MDAS, the Support Worker will work across Aged Care and Disability Services primarily with a focus on engaging members of our Aboriginal Communities who are eligible frail aged or disabled and require support in their own home.
Support Workers are responsible for the frontline delivery of quality services provided to individuals/participants.
Services are provided in accordance with the care plan, Aged Care Quality Standards, service agreement, and organisational policies and procedures, to build capacity, allow individuals to remain at home and/or to live more dependently.
Support Workers undertake a variety of tasks including but not limited to: low and high personal care, respite, domestic assistance, assistance with social support groups, and home maintenance which includes general gardening such as lawn mowing, edging, weeding, and yard clearance.
Key Selection Criteria:
Able to work efficiently and effectively and take direction from senior staff.
Ability to exercise discretion at all times and uphold confidentiality practices.
Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to interface and coordinate work efficiently and effectively with both external and internal customers.
Solve problems based on knowledge and experience.
Strong organisational and coordinating skills.
Administrative skills and managing resources to achieve targets within a timeframe as required.
Take action to provide services that are inclusive of Aboriginal people and engage in learning about other cultures to better establish relationships and improve services.
Qualification/s:
Currently holds or a willingness to obtain a Certificate 4 in Home and Community or Aged Care.
Other Screening Requirements:
A current Driver's License that allows you to drive in Australia.
A current Employee Working with Children Check card.
A current National Police Check.
COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate & Booster information or a valid medical exemption.
