Senior Network Engineer

This Federal Government agency plays an important role for everyday Australians and is often seen as a destination for technology professionals to support the Commonwealth.
The Senior Infrastructure Engineering Experts are accountable for the management of the organisation's network infrastructure including WAN, LAN, WLAN, firewalls, routers, and switches, and the computing infrastructure including data centre, mainframe, midrange, server, and desktop.
Senior Infrastructure Engineering Experts operate with a significant degree of independence and work under the broad guidance of a National Manager to deliver quality outcomes.
They operate with a high level of autonomy, with decision-making highly dependent on their own judgement in performing a leadership role.
Key Responsibilities: Plan and manage infrastructure requirements to meet future infrastructure demandEnsure the provision of infrastructure related operational support for hardware, software and other assetsDefine effective procedures for prioritisation and escalation of infrastructure issues to ensure timely resolutionCommunicate end-to-end implications of configuration changesAnalyse the quality of requests for change management provide detailed, specialist technical advice, including strategic advice to the Executive where appropriateProactively share knowledge and expertise as the subject matter expert and provide assistance and mentorship to less experienced colleaguesDevelop and implement standards, strategies, operational policy and procedures and change initiativesOversee operations of teams, including providing a clear sense of direction, setting work priorities and managing resourcesDevelop staff capability through coaching, mentoring and succession planningNegotiate with suppliers and third-party vendors in the purchase of technology equipment oversee the development, delivery and performance of contracted goods and servicesOversee team contribution to cost analysis activities oversee, review and advise on a range of technical documentationAttend interagency meetings and forums to influence business outcomes and share information drive innovation, continuous improvement and manage and lead changeSet direction by contributing to local business plans and ICT strategies exercise delegation in accordance with legislation and guidelinesPrimary Tech for the role include: Cisco networkF5 ProductsPalo Alto FirewallsInfobloxDNS SolutionsLinux AdministrationWeb ProxyKey Experience: Must have Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1)At least five (5) years demonstrated experience in the design, management and maintenance of large-scale data centre networking environmentExperience in the development of network high-level designs and detailed designsAbility to articulate detail through design and implementation plansHighly developed diagnostic and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication skills, both written and oralAbility to work effectively as a team memberWhat's on Offer: Contract until November 2025 + 2x 12 month extension optionsFlexible working arrangements availableOpportunity to work for a notable Federal Government agencyCalleo is an equal opportunity employer and we encourage applications from all people including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
