Retail Assistants (Retail & Consumer Products)
Location: Hawthorn and Abbotsford, Melbourne
The Role:
Leonard Joel is seeking a positive, motivated and physically fit person to assist in the administration and preparation of the specialist Modern Design auctions on a part-time basis, 4 days per week.
These curated specialist auctions are made up of Australian, Italian, French, Scandinavian and European furniture, lighting, and objects from the 1920s through to present day.
Key Responsibilities:
Participate in department functions as directed by the manager of the department.
A good level of physical fitness and the ability to adopt safe handling practices for moving, lifting, and installing furniture for auction is required.
Customer service: fielding of incoming telephone and email enquiries and engaging with clients.
Ensure that all clients receive a copy of their inventory report/consignment note and auction procedures form for their consigned goods prior to auction.
Management of delivery bookings.
Identification, appraisal, consignment and allocation of goods for auction.
Auction administration including telephone bid organiser.
Monitor storage facility and inventory of items in storage.
Ensure the safe handling of clients' property at all times.
Participate in the cataloguing and physical set-up and merchandising of the Modern Design auctions, to an acceptable level of presentation.
Review auction catalogue for spelling, accuracy and standardised entry.
Staffing of the public auction viewing and fielding of enquiries.
Must be available to work extended hours for weekend viewings.
Auctioneering as required (training provided).
Efficiency in the overall performance of the Modern Design department throughout the auction cycle.
Work in collaboration with the Head of Decorative Arts, and other relevant departments to ensure cohesive presentation in shared spaces.
Completion of tasks delegated by the manager of the department.

Head of Decorative Arts, Design & Interiors.
Full-time and casual members of the furniture team.
Clients.
Qualifications:
Relevant training and experience.
Drivers licence.
Skills and Experience:
Valuation experience across a broad range of categories.
Sales and/or Hospitality (multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment).
IT systems to support auction processes (i.e., database, website administration etc.).
Conversant with Google Workspace, Word and Excel.
Exposure to auction environment.
Generalist knowledge across a broad range of products/categories.
Warehouse management.
Relationship management.
Product knowledge.
Time management and organisational skills.
Other Duties:
Drive company van when required.
Be available for evening and weekend viewings and auctions.
Be available for on-site and off-site valuation days/evenings.
Be available for non-departmental tasks when required.
