About the role Columba Catholic College, Charters Towers is seeking a dedicated First Nations Education Teacher (Secondary).
This role is a full time, fixed term and commences 20 January 2025 for the duration of the 2025 school year.
The ability to teach English and Religious Education is advantageous.
The role of the First Nations Education Teacher is to assist the Principal and teachers in the areas of Curriculum, Pastoral Care and Community Engagement.
The First Nations Education Teacher works cooperatively and in collaboration with school teachers, other student support services team members and parents/carers to ensure First Nations students are supported to engage purposefully in learning.
Key Accountabilities Advocate for and assist with the academic and pastoral needs of First Nations studentsProvide information and support to students to aid engagement in school and community activitiesPromote culturally responsive pedagogies and/or programs to improve educational outcomes of Indigenous school studentsCollaborate with the staff to ensure the effective implementation of Cross-curricular Priorities across the Key Learning AreasDevelop strategies and/or programs to improve educational outcomes of First Nations school studentsEstablish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with relevant stakeholders to improve educational outcomes for First Nations studentsLiaise between the School, student and parents in relation to planning action and achieving outcomes through PLP discussionsOrganise with the principal to keep abreast of latest best practice with First Nations students and source appropriate PDAssist in promoting First Nations cultural events within the school communityOther appropriate duties as required by the PrincipalBuild staff capability through coaching, observation and feedback to identify and implement educational adjustmentsFacilitate relationships and networks within the school and wider community to support First Nations studentsAttend relevant professional development activities provided by TCEO to ensure growth of professional competenceFoster collaborative working relationships with the Emerging Leaders Coordinator to ensure programs and services are complementary to Indigenous Education InitiativesWork inclusively to contribute to broader areas of curriculum development and whole school directions as well as the planning for and considered use of resourcesMaintaining appropriate records and files in line with school and system policy and procedureAccessing appropriate professional and collegial support with opportunities to maintain professional expertise including attending Meetings for Indigenous Education Workers (MIEW) held once per term at TCEO.To join this vibrant school community, you'll need Knowledge of and commitment to the Catholic ethos and mission of the schoolAbility to work as a member of a committed team of professional teachers, dedicated to providing quality teaching and learning in partnership with the parent communityUnderstanding of contemporary pedagogy and the ability to differentiate and provide for a diverse range of abilitiesAbility to collaborate and work positively as a part of a professional learning communityWillingness to change and develop instructional strategies to increase student growth and achievementMandatory Criteria / Professional Registration / Other Appropriate Tertiary qualification with registration or eligibility for registration with Queensland College of TeachersCurrent Driver's LicenceAbility to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of TownsvilleAbility to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.What we offer Competitive SalaryITAS AllowanceAnnual Leave with 17.5% leave loadingAccess to salary packaging options to maximise employee benefits and salaryModern facilities, equipment and resourcesAccess to long service leave after 7 years of continuous service (portability of Long Service Leave may also be applicable)14 Weeks' paid parental leaveDeferred Salary SchemeAccess to corporate health schemesInduction processes, professional learning programs and Early Career Teacher SupportAccess to Employee Assistance ProgramLeadership development opportunitiesFirm lifelong teacher networksWell-being programs and initiativesPlease see the Position Description and Duty Statement for more information.
