About the opportunityWe have a rapidly expanding Natural Areas portfolio with numerous natural assets to maintain, and this role is crucial in shaping the future of our Natural Areas network.
This is a fixed-term position up to June 2025.
Our team focuses on bio-retention systems and Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) assets, including constructed waterway management.
As a bio-retention worker, you will:
Ensure bio-retention systems and wetlands are maintained to service standards.Assist with training and development of Council's apprentices.Undertake the maintenance of bio-retention systems, wetlands, lakes, and associated WSUD assets to achieve a safe and attractive finish.You will play a vital role in improving the natural environment of the Blacktown local government area.
Qualifications and experienceRelevant qualifications in Horticulture or equivalent, or satisfactory completion of an indentured Apprenticeship as a Gardener.Extensive experience in maintenance of WSUD assets, gardens and landscaped areas.Chemical Application AQF 3 or equivalent.Current MR driver's licence.Chainsaw operation certificate of competence.Traffic Controller Implementation accreditation.First Aid certificate.Remuneration and benefitsThe salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council's Enterprise Agreement.
Entry level for this position starts at $1,316.09 per week.Rostered Day Off (RDO) every fortnight.Employee benefits such as leave entitlements (where applicable), 11.5% employer contribution payable to your nominated superannuation fund, Fitness Passport, gym membership discounts, and social clubs.Blacktown City Council is committed to safety.
