The role of Principal Practice Officer provides high level strategic advice and contributes to the development of evidence based best practice for youth justice.The Principal Practice Officer undertakes major projects, manages implementation of new initiatives, designs and develops operational policy and procedures, analyses youth justice trends and performance to achieve the Department's strategic objectives in relation to youth justice, and provides a direct response to oversight committees, reform and reviews and supports recommendations made to the department.As Principal Practice Officer, You Will SpecificallyDemonstrate cultural capability and a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.Identify, research, and analyse complex operational and practice issues and lead the development and implementation of evidence based operational policy and practice solutions specific to court, restorative justice, and community supervision, and responsive frameworks like Framework for Practice, Outcomes Framework, Domestic and Family Violence, Multi- Agency Collaborate Panels and Gendered responses.Prepare high level advice on current practice, relevant operational policy/ procedure implications, legislation and programs and the preparation of a range of written material including cabinet submissions, executive correspondence, briefing material and information papers in relation to service delivery.Lead, coordinate, plan, implement and monitor progress of major projects within tight timeframes to achieve desired outcomes.Liaise and consult with other teams and with various other areas within the Department to identify practice issues and to develop strategic and operational solutions.Represent and negotiate on behalf of the organisation in external and internal discussions and relevant working groups about the development of practice initiatives and major projects that enhance and develop current practices for Youth Justice Services.Provide high level expert advice and information to the Manager, Practice Development and/ or Manager, Practice Support, and Director Regional Operations and other key stakeholders pertaining to complex Youth Justice Service delivery issues and trends and presenting information for service delivery consideration, inclusive of advice pertaining to complex court processes and legislation interpretation.Work within a team environment, and if necessary, as a project team leader, to coordinate the activities of team members and contribute to the promotion of an accountable and equitable work environment as delegated by the Manager.Interested in applying?To enable us to assess your suitability, your applications should include:Tell Us About Your SkillsYour current resume detailing your previous work or voluntary experience including two referees who have a thorough knowledge of your conduct and performance over the past 2 years, or an appropriate period.We will use your resume to assess how well you meet 'What are we looking for' statements.Tell Us About YouProvide a short statement (of no more than two pages) telling us why you are interested in this role and outlining what your motivation is to join us.This should also summarise your skills, experience and achievements against the leadership competencies/capabilities and duties/responsibilities.Applicants are encouraged to provide a referee who is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to the applicant's background, knowledge, skills and experience as they relate to the cultural capabilities.Applications to remain current for 12 months.Occupational group Justice & Legal
