Underground Production Supervisor - PNG FIFONew Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea's total annual exports.
About the role As part of our ongoing ramp up of underground operations, New Porgera Limited is seeking an experienced Production Supervisor. Reporting to the Underground Production Foreman, you will be responsible for the mentoring of underground crews and supervision including their quality of work and successful, safe delivery to production and haulage schedules. We operate a significant fleet of drills, trucks and loaders including CUBEX V30 and Normet Charmecs.
The role includes a significant training and development element, sharing your knowledge and experience, upskilling and future proofing your team in line with global best practices as we ramp up production to 1.8Mtpa Ore across a mix of mining both narrow vein and bulk stoping, with both Rockfill and Paste backfill methods.
You will model safety behaviours whilst monitoring performance utilizing data, systems and observations to implement small changes that lead to big impacts in processes and behaviours, driving a continuous improvement mindset, looking at opportunities to implement global best practices finding efficiencies in time, plant and people operations and cost in alignment with operational requirements, legislation, statutory regulations and QA/QC standards.
You will coach and develop teams, maintaining the highest safety and housekeeping standards, working with your team to assess and manage risk, overseeing safe working including observation and reporting of all safety, health, and environmental incidents, near misses or hazards including property damage and monitoring geotechnical issues accordingly.
NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, with strong ability in delivery to support the mine's successful operation whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members to complete projects according to plan in a timely and safe manner.
About you NPL has a supportive and dynamic culture. You will be a natural self-starter who will bring initiative and ideas to your team, set clear accountabilities and visible leadership with a focus on safety supporting production. Given the dynamic environment, you must demonstrate agility and an ability to work effectively under pressure, understand and meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ideally in a developing nation.
Experience of large mining operations/organisations and systemic/process improvements is ideal, combined with a minimum of 5 years managing underground Drill & Blast. Experience using Epiroc / Atlas Copco long hole drills and Up-hole and Down-hole charging is essential. You should also demonstrate a broad knowledge of underground mining operations, including ventilation, services, and equipment maintenance.
You will demonstrate a 'One Team' approach, extensive underground operational experience, providing effective leadership and development for your expat and local team to reinforce NPL's culture and values, always promoting a safe work environment. The position requires a high energy individual, hands-on management style and desire to continuously improve you and your team's knowledge and systems and methods of work.
You will model a commitment to safety through proactive interactions, utilizing hazard identification tools, leading reporting, and active participation in safety incident investigations. Prioritizing the well-being of our team and the environment is paramount.
